OUGD406 (Studio Brief 4) Final layout development

Now that I have set the final layouts for each page, it is important that my headings are correctly sized.

Below shows a pull out weekly timetable I have made that will be inserted into the booklet
I will be using brain flower as the font for the headings and subheadings
Pull out shopping list will be included for each recipe page

OUGD406 (Studio Brief 4) Layout development

I have started to mock my layouts up on indesign, using a three column grid. I want to keep the layout consistent throughout therefor I will keep all images aligned to the bottom right hand corner on the left page, and it will spread over the second and third column. The only page this will differ for is the directions page, as the map will be placed on the right hand side page and will take up most of the space.

This spread is how it will look when finalised, will need a few adjustments but this is the main layout design I want. I think the grid layout works really well as it divides the information perfectly with a good balance. The white space on the image page is a positive elemente I think.

This shows my 'finding your way' spread on indesign. I used the document grid to make sure I aligned all text correctly. The three column grid has been put to good use. I will keep this layout consistent throughout the whole booklet. I like the way in the first column the body copy stays within the margin, then the main content spreads across the second two.
I think the choice of brain flower for the heading, and helvetica light for the body copy work well.

OUGD406 (Studio Brief 4) Further design development

Now that I have all my images scanned in and image traced on illustrator, I have started to play around with the colours. I don't want the colours to be too vibrant, but I also want to keep the publication quite fun and quirky.

I think the colours for the burger recipe page work well, they are not too vibrant. They will also stand out well from the plain white background.

For the healthy foods page I have combined the berries and broccoli into one image.

I created this map by drawing out the main route to college from liberty park, then I have image traced it in illustrator, then added colour. I think that these colours work well together as the pastels are not to vivid but they compliment each other nicely. It will stand out well from a white background.

OUGD406 (Studio Brief 4) Design development

Knowing what content was going into my booklet, I need to start ideas for the illustrations to accompany the content. I know I want to keep the style of my drawings simple and fun, so that it fits in with the whole theme of my brief, therefore I started to sketch simple drawings that I could later develop on illustrator and photoshop when producing the final product.

These hand drawn sketches I will develop on the computer to produce a final image that can accompany the content, I quite like the style of drawing as it is simple and quirky.

I have also had the idea of including a pull out shopping list for each recipe, and a pull out weekly timetable so the student can even carry the timetable with them

In the interim crit, I showed my little sketch book full of thumbnails and sketch ideas, and the feedback was positive. I wasnt sure whether to use colour on the drawings or not, as I was going to keep the map page black and white also. But I was advised that the colour would balance out my spreads, but only use colour on the image.

Developing these drawings:
I have scanned the drawings in and image traced them on illustrator. This gives them a deeper outline. I originally wanted to keep my publication simple, and stick to black and white to make printing costs cheaper, however I think that colour on the images would work better.
